I met Mark last week! He and I connected through Aaron, Coffee #3. Mark is the owner and salesman for his company, Office Supply Solutions. He works 7 days a week to stay on top of the business and the sales side. Pretty admirable! Mark shared a lot of information about his company, including the fact that he carries everything from toilet paper to pens to break room snacks.
After we talked about his company, Mark asked who I was trying to meet and gave me the names of several people to reach out to. He is incredibly well-connected. After hearing some examples of his customer service I imagine it's because he goes out of his way for everyone he meets.
Insight: Mark pointed out to me near the end of our meeting that, although I'd given him my card, I'd said very little about what I do for a living. At first I explained that my project was more about just meeting people and learning about them. But after a little thought I decided he was right. At the risk of sounding sales-y, I hadn't been telling people much about what I do. I don't want it to be a sales pitch, but I do need to make my name synonymous with what I do for a living.
Also, I've had a hard time remembering everything I've discussed with someone after a meeting, and I think this blog hasn't been very thrilling because of that. After this meeting I'm going to ask permission to record meetings on my phone so I can access specific details and make this more interesting. Stay tuned for Coffee #15 with Ryan!
When are you and I going to coffee together?
